Thanks, well I guess that gives me an excuse to rearrange one of my tanks I have to tell my wife it has to be sand LOL.

I have sand mixed with gravel and Flora Max over dirt on several tanks. The process I've had success with is as follows:
First lay down the hardscape, then put a layer of soil from the bag on top of a scattering of the old sand/gravel left in the tank, then put moist soil that had soaked for several days over that to hold down any of the drier soil that wanted to float. Then put a thin layer of just sand over that and finally most of the gravel or sand/ gravel/Flora Max/etc/mix. Then plant heavily and variedly. Then spread the rest of the gravel and finally fill tank gently using something to diffuse the water.

When I switch the tank should I use most of the same water I took out
