Shoots? What to do?

I know next to nothing about aquatic plants so help me if you can?


I hope i can post pics from my album like this....

I just took out my gravel and replaced it with sand.... Should these shoots be above or below the sand line?

Also another sloppy shot on my part... This hump where the leaves sprout from should be above the sand line as well?

First one, I think those "shoots" are roots, (hard to tell from pic). You can bury them, or they'll make their own way down there.

Second one looks good as is

Those look like roots to me. They are fine the way they are. I have sand and my big plants like my swords have roots half in and half out of the sand. Some will grow straight up and get longer than the leaves at times!
