I have thought about putting a fish aquarium on my desk at work, however, there is no way I could take care of an adequately sized fish tank in cubeville. So I thought about a plants only tank...maybe with a few nerite snails or shrimp.

Here are the questions....as I am relatively new to aquatic plants.

#1 Are water changes still required for a plants only tank? How much...etc...details
#2 Are there any plants that could grow with minimal lighting...like ambient office light.
#3 Would a square 1Gal tank be of adequate size for nutrients, water flow, etc.
#4 What am I not asking and what is the answer?

Thanks!

Yes, you will need to still do water changes. How much will depend on if you stock it with anything (inverts, etc) and how heavily planted it is.

Some low lights would be able to stay alive with ambient light but I would be shocked if they actually grew. Maybe a clip on light would be something to consider.

#3 would depend on your stock of plants and inverts in all honesty.

I'd google nano plant only tank or something like that to get some ideas of what people have come up with. Always good to get some inspiration before diving in.
