Either the fish deaths or the drop in CO2 production could have started the algae outbreaks, however either the CO2 level would need to remain low or another nutrient deficiency would need to be present for the algae to stick around. What's your fert schedule look like? What are your current NO3 and PO4 levels (include what test kit you're using)?
