Okay so i am planning on starting a planted tank... would normal top fin gravel work or do u i need something extra? also are the java moss things at petsmart any good for guppies? i need tons of hiding spots for my fry! I just need tips on types of plants to buy. i am doing this stocking and planting project with about $80...

Gravel can work for Java ferns as you don't plant those. You can tie or glue them to rocks or decor. Sand is better if you think you're going to want to grow plants like stem plants. You can add root tabs for things like swords or Crypts.

Guppy Grass can be floated or use Java Moss for fry to hide in.
