I'd test it against a reference solution to check and see if you get the correct result or not.

Some growth evident. Also some gifts from a generous local hobbyist. Some extra plants, two catfish, and a couple dozen shrimp. The shrimp have plenty of driftwood to hide in for their numbers and size, so we play "shrimp hunt" when we look at the tank now. Usually in 5 minutes of searching we can find 3-5 shrimp.

9/26/2007, after more generous gifts... I'm starting to run out of places to plant things, but that's a good thing.

Well, the spot behind the driftwood does have plants, they're just kind of short at the moment. left foreground is crypts, that don't take to moving well. Back left corner still has a little space.

I really stink at close-up aquarium photography, but we have seen no less than five berried shrimp last weekend. (All at once, so we were not counting any twice.) No wonder the boys were going nuts in the middle of last week. We're going to be swarming with babies in a few weeks.

If you have a macro setting on your camera, try that with the light on in the tank and no room lights on at all.

My camera insists on focusing on the glass instead of the object I want in the tank. Sometimes I can get a semi-recognizable shot by moving the camera after it focuses, but usually not.

The other thing you can do is focus on something the same distance as the shrimp are away from the glass. Then while still holding focus, move the camera right up to the glass. This may not work with light off in the room though as your camera will open up big to let a lot of light in as the room would be dark.
