Sounds pretty typical in a planted tank. You'll get better at spotting the babies (even the really tiny 1-2mm ones) after you've been breeding them for awhile. Oh, and CONGRATS!!

It's been awhile since I've updated.

Typical of my bad luck, I've had both air pump and heater failures. The heater was worse than the air pump, as it first got stuck off, then got stuck on, then went in the garbage. Air pump was no big deal, my plants can keep up with the oxygen needs of the shrimp. New heater is functioning admirably, the plecos enjoy cozying up to it.

I am convinced that I need to get the big pump/sponge filter going next time it's warm enough to glue PVC, as there are warm and cold zones in the water. I'll leave it for now, the shrimp and fish find the zones they like best and hang out there. Will probably take the air pump and old sponge filters out at that point.

I'll try to get a picture of the thickening forest up sometime soon.

You have no idea. Now that the plants have grown in thickly, I thought I had lost most of them last summer. I was thinking I had messed up as badly as I had when this thread started. But I'm doing a huge water change right now, and they're coming out of the woodwork. They're everywhere.

They have a tendancy to build up a large population without you ever knowing it in larger tanks, that's for sure.

Updated Tank Shot:

There are shrimp everywhere, although you can't see them at this scale. They're a bit pale, probably because I let the water quality slip. Going to try to improve that. There are shrimp of every size, so they must still be breeding, although I don't see any currently carrying eggs.
