Stocking Suggestions For 12g Nanocube Planted Tank

What kind of fish would you put in there? I'm looking at plant health as my #1 priority, and I also don't want anything that will outgrow the tank.

What about dwarf puffers? Will they go well with a planted tank? Are they brackish?

Yep. Puffers are brackish. I'd go with 6 pristella tetras. The black and yellow on this little fish really stand out in a planted tank. A few pygmy cories and maybe 2 marble hatchets for the upper region.

Dwarf gourami's are also an excellent choice if you don't want to repeat the pristella's. Or, swap the two between your tanks.

I was actually thinking about Dwarf Gourami's too. How many would you suggest? Maybe three dwarf gourami's and 3 peppered cories? Any algea eater needed?

Hi,

Dwarf puffer are not brackish they are freshwater fish.
They are really interesting and active creatures. They are fantastic fish in a planted thank since they eat snails and love to explore. You could have about 3 puffers with 2-3 otocinclus. I have 4 of them in a 20 gallons thank since august and still enjoy watching them.

Info about Dwarf puffers :
http://www.dwarfpuffers.com/intro1.htm

I also have a South American puffer in a 10 gallon tank. He is freshwater as well. If you need more info don't hesitate to ask me.

(you can look at my gallery if you want to see my set ups. It's not up to date but it still gives you an idea)

Thanks for the info melissa1977. I think I will go with dwarf puffers then. You are sure they won't harrass the otos though? 3 dwarf puffers and three otos would be perfect.

I agree, I believe dwarf puffers are completely freshwater as far as I know all other species of puffers require salt or brackish. The dwarves only grow to about 1" and they are very aggressive. Not many other fish make suitable tankmates, so it may not be what you're looking for, but they are definitely cool.

Great site for more info...

Edit: Doh, missed Melissa's post, sorry.

If your thank is planted and has a lots of hiding spots you shoudn't have problems with the puffers harassing the ottos.

However, you have to expect that at first, the ottos might not get the idea that puffers are menace. After a while they should get the picture. My ottos are still getting picked on but they now understand not to stay to close to puffers. Before they would tend to school with them, not anymore... But don't get me wrong, they are happy, they just hide a little bit more than if they would be by themself in the tank.

[acronym:fb1323b5ad="By the way"]BTW[/acronym:fb1323b5ad] Oxymoron there is 3 puffers that I know about that are freshwater :
Dwarf Puffers
South American puffer
Red eyed puffer
