What are some good easy plants similar to the Indian fern that can/will grow in sand?

Most if not all can be grown in sand. They may need a root tab for nutrients, but that should be it. All of our plants are in sand.

Ah okay I didn't know that, can you suggest any plants that absorb all the nutrient threw the leaves rather then the roots

Mosses will absorb from the water. As will java fern, anubias, wisteria, floaters, etc. but it is primarily through their roots, not leaves.

Any stem plant will get a lot of nutrients through the water, but as always, root fertilization and water column fertilization are best done together rather than one way or the other.
