I purchased a red Ludwig and and the told me I need iron supplements . Will root tabs work or what can I get?

Congratulation on your purchase. You can use ferrous (Fe2) or chelate iron. Chelated iron is the most used in the hobby since it's more water soluble. A quick google will get you to a few sites that specialize in aquarium fertilizers like green leaf aquariums GLA which are dry ferts. You can also use seachem iron (premixed) and dried clay for root tabs. Iron won't be the only thing you will need to keep your plants red. You will need intense lighting and high co2.
