Thinking of upgrading to medium light

I have only just started using diy co2 in my 30gal, havnt had it long enough to notice differences, but i am very keen on keeping a nicely planted tank.
Im thinking about upgrading my 30w light to something a bit better, perhaps in the near future, but im just wondering what this will actually involve!
I understand i cant just by a new bulb and screw it into my current fixture.
Im thinking compact flourescent? Would this be my best choice? Will i need to replace my entire hood? I have a Jewel rekord 120 tank.

Im just after some advice really, any suggestion will be appriciated.

What brand of hood do you currently have? I would assume it's at least 24" across?

The hood i by Juwel Aquarium, it measures just under 40inches (101cms).
