So this is the early beginning of the 40b...
What I've got so far :
1-40b
1-rena xp canister filter
1- koralia 240 nano powerhead

What I'm waiting on to arrive:
2- finnex 24/7's (correction)
1-Eheim 350 skimmer
Brightwell's Rio Escuro EF(black)plant substrate w/a couple odds & ends

What's left to purchase:
1- Aquatech Deluxe CO2 Reg
1-#5 Tank

DIY Projects:
1- Stand fit for the 40b
1-Cerges reactor

That's the basic list for now....
Any suggestions feel free to bounce em off me...

Sup Fish...
Kicking the idea around about having 2"-4" glass cut away lowering the overall height of the tank by a local glass shop...
My dude says no problem&$30 makes it happen!

Keep the height man. Its literally the perfect height as is.

I would say cut it 2"(Edit-if you where to even cut it), I like being able to let the plants grow taller in my 29, and they just couldn't do that in a 12" tank. Sacrifice some light, but with 2 planted+ I'd think you could grow any foreground plant at 15".

You're going to make that as tall as your 20L? Lots of photons, indeed.
Looking forward the stand. Make it big enough the house all of the toys. And add an LED strip that comes on when you open the doors.
I knew this was going to happen because the 20L can only hold so many plants.
Any particular theme? Dutch? Or lots of hardscape?

I might leave the height alone...
I have a ton of lace rock from an old setup I'm thinking about cutting into smaller pieces for some hard scape,so maybe a Dutch hybrid...
The 20L will stay up but in the meantime will act as a "seed" tank for the 40b...

Fresh and others have already asked most of my questions. But I still have some. I'm it's pretty early but do you have any idea what your stock will be? Style? anything you learned from the 20L that you will do different in the 40B. Can't wait to see what you will come up with after seeing the 20L. I will be following this thread silently( mostly) Gl on your newest tank adventure!

One thing that will be different is the substrate,a Brightwell product will be used in place of soil(rio escuro ef)

I will make use of neons in this one as well, along with:
1-pair of gbr's
6ish-ottos
6 or 8-cories
6 or more-amano scrimp
Still open on ideas for another schooling group..
Style as of now will be something like a Dutch hybrid..

For schooling maybe something classy like harlequins or porkchop? I personally love rummynose and CPDS, both look pretty nice in a planted tank.

Monoculture of Fissidens and a large colony of Ember tetras. Now THAT would be a challenge.

That's a definite challenge but don't think I can do this one without stems...been looking in diff areas for inspiration.
There's always some spider wood that was a little large for the 20L..
