two questions

1) can anyone recommend some good low light plants for newbies to planted tanks?

2) when in cycling a new tank is a good time to start plants?

Java ferns, java moss, anubias, anacharis, crypts.

You can plant right away.

i agree with rick completly all very good plant choices. my personal favourite is java moss. attach it to wood an stones and it is also very good to learn how to aquascape. crypts are also a very good choice casue ther eis such a wide variety of them and they grow well under low light.
