Unknown Red Worm Found on Anacharis Plant

I bought some Anacharis plants from Petco a few days ago and on one of the plants i found this red worm. I'm a newbie at this stuff so any help would be appreciated.

its a midgefly larvae or mosquito. im pretty sure its midgefly because its bigger than mosquito. is it live? or could it just be frozen. alot of fish would love that worm . divide evenly... if its live it could carry diseases so id check with someone else 1st
