I've read that you will have to get the CO2 tank you've bought recertified every now and then (safety, etc.).
When would that be?

Every 5 years. Usually about 15-20 bucks. All welding/gas supply shops and fire protection shops will ALWAYS check the stamp before they fill any cylinder, so don't worry about missing it. They are required to check and are not allowed to fill out of date cylinders.

There is a tag that goes around the neck of the bottle eith a date punched out of it. There should also be a date stamped into the metal of the bottle on the curve from the neck to the body.

There's no tag with a stamped/punched date on it.
On the neck of the bottle there are three dates (should be dates) stamped in there. The last one says 1 A0 10 05. So it's just been recertified right?

recertification is free near me. Try calling the fire department before paying for recert.

And it varies from state to state how often they have to be retested.
