Will this light grow anything?

I have a 29 gallon and the light that came with it is an aqueon 8,000k full spectrum daylight, 17w T8 24inch bulb. Will this grow anything, even low light plants? Thanks everyone

It will grow algae, but the spectrum isn't the best for plants. You want 6700k for that.

What? 8000K is fine for plants. Pretty much any non-actinic bulb will be fine for plants. There are 18000K bulbs that work fine for plants. Color temp of a bulb is NOT the same as spectrum.


You're going to be very limited on what will grow in the tank if you can get anything to grow at all. I would try to stick to java ferns, anubias, and moss species. Java moss will do fine at just about any light level.

Thanks for the replies! Can anyone suggest a bulb I can get? I would just like low light plants and not have to use co2. I'm just gonna be starting out so I'd like to keep it simple at first. Thanks again
