I think this is an eexcellent question. What about the why's behind the answers. If you said only one or the other what is the justifaction for it?

are you saying he has no sump? Or just that LR is all that is in the sump to filter his tank?

He has no sump. This isnt my buddy's tank but here is sombody doing something simillar. Sometimes simplicity just works...
