I'm glad to have read these posts, I had been thinking of adding some sunburst wag platies to my tank and the bright colors of those fish could lead to some aggression issues with my Betta. I will consider that carefully before proceeding. Thanks.

betta

I found a beautiful white and blue male betta at walmart a couple month back. I introduced him to my community tank. Everything was fine for quite a few hours. But, the next morning I woke up to find him dead. Torn to shreds and being eaten. I was pretty bummed.

My "community tank" has only female bettas, there is an alpha female who keeps everything in order.

I will never forget the most evil thing I saw a fish do.

I had a betta in a community tank and I had just brought 6 rasboras. When I set them loose in the tank, they sank and stayed close to the bottom, adjusting to the new environment.

My betta approached one of them from behind... he stopped a few centimeters away from the rasbora's tail just when I was about to hit the glass to scare him off.

But he stopped and stayed there for a few seconds. He seemed to loose interest. It looked like he was going away and I thought everything was ok.

He calmly went around the rasbora without showing any interest and then suddenly attacked the rasbora from the front, byting off one eye... brrrr.

That betta also had some epic fights with a female angel fish with a huge body short fins.

I did some research about adding a betta to a community tank. Platies are suppose to make good tank mates for bettas. I have two male platies and two otos in a 10 gal. I added a new betta two days ago and all are doing well together. They check each other out and the otos even seem to play with the betta. If the platies approach the betta too quickly he stands his ground and they lose interest. Keeping fingers crossed, but so far so good.

Well, I guess it's time for my betta story:

I have a 29 gallon tank full of bowl rock and river rock. I have 2 cobalt blue gouramis, 2 kribensis cichlids, a 5" gold gourami, 5 blue flame tetras, a blue lobster, about 10 ghost shrimp, 2 german blue rams, 2 bolivian rams, and a beautiful crown-tail betta (male), they all seem to get along, no fin nipping. The funny thing is, whenever there is some kind of dispute, or I add new fish, my gold gourami comes out of his cave and checks out the fish or breaks up the fight
