Add LR at startup or Cycle and then add it???

I've heard so many different answers its making my head spin
What the main difference between the two?
What do you suggest?

I would add it at the startup and use the die off to cycle. This is going to depend on how much die off you have from the rock. Some recommend adding the cocktail shrimp as well to assure a good ammonia spike. I used rock from liverocks.com and had a good ammonia spike with no shrimp and lots of hitchhikers to watch after the cycle ends. Normal cycles go from 4 to 8 weeks. Although I have heard of tanks having cycles completed sooner. Don't try to rush it, it will come soon enough.
