CFLs at home depot

I have a 36" hood that can take 2 x 16" [acronym:c20a275056="Compact Fluorescent Light"]CFL[/acronym:c20a275056]. Right now I have 1 coralife 36w 10k [acronym:c20a275056="Compact Fluorescent Light"]CFL[/acronym:c20a275056], I bought 2 of them 1 I cracked for $80..yikes! I retrofitted 1 [acronym:c20a275056="Normal Output Fluorescents"]NO[/acronym:c20a275056] 20w actinic bulb. My tank dimensions 36x16x20.
How much total wattage do I need sufficient enough to start a reef tank & which one can I get at home depot thats sutiable. I was thinking about getting [acronym:c20a275056="Metal halide light"]MH[/acronym:c20a275056], but what can I get to retrofit my hood to be able to recieve [acronym:c20a275056="Metal halide light"]MH[/acronym:c20a275056] . So with the hood that I have right now, what would you do?http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDUS...gmm.0&MID=9876

We all had to pay big$$ too, there is no way around it [acronym:5c4f826f45="Laughing out loud"]LOL[/acronym:5c4f826f45]. Good light for a reef, when using fluorescents, is 3-6 watts per gallon of aquarium water. Getting them in the right spectrum ([acronym:5c4f826f45="Kelvin or Potassium, depending on context"]k[/acronym:5c4f826f45]) is just as important (if not more) than watts. [acronym:5c4f826f45="Hope this helps (or) Happy to help"]HTH[/acronym:5c4f826f45]
