my green star polyps were iffy when I introduced them also - I moved them and now they are doing much better - I moved them about 6 inches closer to the lights - I believe I have the same light as you do - which puts them about 5 inches from the top of the water - 10 inches from light (approx)

I have 3 urchins - a penciltip and 2 shortspines - and I havent seen them munch on any of my corals but they definitely move em - so make sure they are solid

They're relatively low light critters, so I'd say sandbed would be ok - but who knows. How much flow are they getting? Have you tried moving them around a bit?

UPDATE
UPDATE.....

It looks like my green star polyp isn't dead after all... I see a few tiny green polyps on what I thought was just the dead rock. Maybe there is hope yet? I will re-check tank parameters....will post when completed.

(May be a while, am having a melt-down-company-coming- for- Thanksgiving-prep week!)

I need to revive this post...I just edited the title, because I just found a huge worm wrapped all the way around the rock with the remains of the green star polyps... I knew I had the worm, but I thought he was a harmless bristleworm!! I just searched this site and he's DEFINITELY a big bad fluffy fireworm! I think I've found the cause of my strangely deteriorating polyps!! I grabbed him with long tongs and plopped him in my [acronym:ce509a0045="Hang On Back"]HOB[/acronym:ce509a0045] fuge. Would it be safe to leave him there? I really hate to kill anything. Ideas? I really think I've caught my villain!

He should be Ok in fuge. You say you really hate to kill anything and that is good, but too bad he didn`t think that way though

Well, I guess the worm is only doing what he's born to do!

Does anyone think that the fireworm is probably the culprit in decimating my various polyps? Also is there an alternative to killing him if he's guilty? Can he live in my [acronym:7a5753aba7="Hang On Back"]HOB[/acronym:7a5753aba7] fuge?
