help
i have this black stringy/feathery stuff growing off of my crushed coral. what is this? is this good or is this a bad thing/ if its bad or good how do i get rid of it because it looks like death. thank i appreciate it |

Sounds like some form of undesirable algae.
Is there anyway you could take a photo of it and attach it to the message? That would help out tremdiously. Please answer the following questions. How long has the tank been up? How big is the tank? What is in the tank? What are the following water test readings: Ammonia? Nitrite? Nitrate? Phosphate? PH? Calcium? What type of lights and how long do you leave them on?

it looks dark green/brownish.
i've had my tank set up for about 1.5 month, 35gallon tank, 2 powerheads, backpack skimmer, about 20 lb of live rock 2 peppermint shrimp and 9 snails. all is alive still but this stuff scares me and it keeps on growing. i'll do some tests on my water and post a pic later tonight. thanks |

The pic will help alot but I suspect you have a form of cyanobacteria.
