What's the footprint on the fuge and what are the benefits you want to gain from it?
For a 'fuge smaller that a 30 gallon I recommend no more than 1/2" of sand. It's just too small to maintain a healthy deep sand bed.

Thats interesting Bang...why would the foot print effect the [acronym:cef54af86d="Deep Sand Bed"]DSB[/acronym:cef54af86d] that much?

for 24" X 18" I think 4" would work well as long as it includes some high quality live sand. I thought this was half a 55 gallon? Wouldn't that only be 13" wide?
