Nano Reef Question.

There is some info. on Nano Reef tanks. However, I heard that they don't last as long as Regular size reef tanks. Is this true ? Is there anyone here who has had a Nano Reef tank for several years ? Please share your experience. Thank You.

i think that is a thing of the past. now days people keep nano's that are much healthier than a fullsize tank. a good place to read up about nanos is www.nano-reef.com they have all sorts of info.

This site has some cool info, even shows how he set up his tank, which I think is beautiful http://www.oc-creative.com/reef/index.asp

I have a nano, which may eventually develop into a reef but it's just a Fish Only with Live Rock now and it's a 5 gallon long.

Like with any other small tank you just have to watch the water parameters. Small tanks are much more suseptable to disease and other problems. I would say though that due to many advance with the different chemicals(although i'm not a huge advocate of excessive chemicals) and different filtration devices small tanks are easier to keep than ever.

I am planning on a 5G tank. If I keep just Coral and some cleaning crew, will this help to keep a better chemical balance and make things simpler ?

Also instead of using DI/RO water, how about using phosphate removers ?

Thanks.
