New LR...way cool "bug" on my glass

I just got 40# of [acronym:c7de900c35="Live rock"]lr[/acronym:c7de900c35].com rock. I was sitting there looking at awe of it and noticed that it looked like I smacked my glass a good one As I looked closer I found that it was some kind of hitchhiker. This may not be new to some of you but it is for me and it has me mesmorized. Its a very small (1/8" long x 1/32" wide) white "bug". The cool thing about it is that it has these worm things that crawl away from the body but are still connected with a spider web thin string. Once they get too far away (1" or so) they get pulled back to the bug. I'm thinking that maybe those smaller things might be babies and the spider web is a sort of "leash" so they don't get too far.
Anyone know what I'm talking about? Sorry, I don't have a camera right now.

lol Sounds like a spaghetti worm. They send out tentacles in search of food/detrius and bring it back in. It will eventually situate itself back in the rock or in your sand bed.

I just looked it up, I'm pretty sure thats what it is. Are they common? If so, I guess I'm an idiot huh
I still like the idea of the "mom" keeping track of it's babies

havefun, i got one of those too. Mine was underneath the rock and looked sort of like a spider web. Actually it was fluff that identified it for me and that it is beneficial. So how do you like your rock. Seems like you got a couple more hitchhickers then i did.

I love it! There is finally some life in my tank after almost a month. I just keep looking at and find more critters occasionaly. My spaghetti worm was actually crawling on the glass and it's tentacles were "crawling" on it as well - thats why I thought they were it's babies or something.
When I put the rock in I had my [acronym:ad9f055008="power head or Measure of the concentration of hydrogen ions, depending on context"]ph[/acronym:ad9f055008]'s and canister unplugged so there was no current in the water, I could see tons of little red worms and white things swimming around. Of course after I plugged my [acronym:ad9f055008="power head or Measure of the concentration of hydrogen ions, depending on context"]ph[/acronym:ad9f055008]'s back in they didn't have a chance so if they are bennificial I hope they found some place to hold on to.
In the bottom of my box I had probably 5 dead crabs (2 or 3 different species I think). Several what I believe are bristle worms, a dead peppermint shrimp and a mangled brittle star. Trying to move that star around I ended up breaking off the remaining 2 arms - they are still moving 5+ hours later. Also, that crab with the black tip pinchers is still alive in the box. I can't believe it, that water has got to be high 60's low 70's - tough little guy.

Critters I have seen in the tank:

1 - what I think is a shrimp, not mantis or peppermint (he's kind of yellow or tan)
2+ crabs (one has those feather things)
1 - I think larger brittle star (I can see an arm in a hole)
many different kinds of worms
1 - small urchen (smaller than a pencil eraser)
1 - pretty large snail (1" or so), he has a cone shaped shell and has dug himself into the sand about half way. I picked him up to move him once and his foot is clear in color.
1 - smaller snail crawling on the rocks.
quite a few feather dusters
1 spaghetti worm

I'm probably looking right at some other things but don't know it (anemones, etc).

This deffinately beats looking at dead shrimp to cycle!
[acronym:ad9f055008="By the way"]BTW[/acronym:ad9f055008], I checked my water before I put the rock in and my ammo is on it's way down and my trites are at about 4 (higher than they've ever been).
