What type of skimmer do you have? It should be producing skim, even if it's only a little, every day. Perhaps it just needs adjusted.

Are you still cycling? If so what are you using to cycle? If completed cycling what is in the tank now?

My seaclone needed adjusting pretty regular at first now it stays pretty good with the air halfway closed.

my seaclone was the same way for about 3 weeks, now with the live rock it pulls junk out great, just give it time, and work with the air adjustment

Could be nothing to skim yet. I've heard of people not skimming in the cycle stage because you may be removing beneficial bacteria. Don't quote me though, not something I've tried myself.

[acronym:415b539ec3="In my opinion"]IMO[/acronym:415b539ec3], the skimmer is not needed for another month or so. If the tank is cycling, I think the bigger concern is keeping ammonia and nitrite down (lots of water changes) for the sake of the 3 fish. Be sure to check the levels daily.

once the tank is done cycling or soon thereafter, i would suggest running the skimmer 24/7.
