Protien Skimmer

I've ran my tank for about 3 months with live rock, is a protien skimmer absolutley necessary?

THANKS!

No, you can go skimmerless, you should make sure you do frequent water changes to maintain water quality and I would make sure to run [acronym:cb39b8b9c2="Granular Activated Carbon"]GAC[/acronym:cb39b8b9c2].

I can honestly say I asked the same question when setting up my 125 tank, and Im so glad I got a skimmer. Its a [acronym:1f82a23079="Fish only with live rock"]FOWLR[/acronym:1f82a23079] but I have had since I put the skimmer in 0 nitrates the whole time. It really helps for sure. Plus I only do a 15 gallon water change per month. A skimmer is well worth the money just in effort and water...Got mine from captivereefs.com....Darin is great to work with as well..
