Many of the marine caulerpas (macro algaes) you will find in the mainstream of the hobby will not require much in the way of light.

Where will the caulerpa be used?

If setting up a refugium, simple NO fluoresence will do. Caulerpa will usually do best with lower kelvin rated bulbs 5500-6500k as they emit more toward the red spectrum of lighting.

Cheers
Steve

Please clarify what you mean when you say "plant type things". Are you talking corals or algae?

Corals are animals just like fish with the excpetion they are not as moble (they do move though).

Once your tank has been established for sometime and stable, there are some corals and such that do not require special lighting.

Certain types of polyped corals, gorgonians and other filter or solid food animals that do not require light for the purpose of maintaining zooxanthellae. Something to look into for later. The only concern with these types of animals is they are very high maintenance and require alot of care and special feeding. Not to be entered into lightly if you do not have the appropriate time and patience.
