What substrate for a refugium?
I planning to setup a refugium. My main goal is to grow macro algae to help eliminate/reduce nitrates.
What type of substrate should I be using? I have seen something about miracle mud (I am not sure if macro algae can grow with this miracle mud), and also heard just use some substrate from my existing aquarium. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. |

In mine I use a combo of fine sand and some Florida crushed coral. This is what my [acronym:c01b995df9="Local Fish Store"]LFS[/acronym:c01b995df9] suggested. He had the caulapera attached to rocks which I lightly buried into the substrate. Has worked fine for 6 mos.
