A buffering agent raises alkalinity and in part helps coralline grow. Like scleractinians, coralline desposits [acronym:d35632715e="Calcium carbonate"]CaCO3[/acronym:d35632715e] as it grows.. It is not just the [acronym:d35632715e="Alkinity"]alk[/acronym:d35632715e] you need to be concerned about but also the calcium as both are required. The elevation of the levels are not as important as keeping [acronym:d35632715e="Alkinity"]alk[/acronym:d35632715e]/[acronym:d35632715e="Calcium"]Ca[/acronym:d35632715e] in balance. As long as the levels are within [acronym:d35632715e="Natural sea water"]NSW[/acronym:d35632715e], your all good.

Cheers
Steve
