Apple Snails - Aquarium Advice

I saw some neat snails that were pretty big at the [acronym:3069e99733="Local Fish Store"]LFS[/acronym:3069e99733]. They were labled apple snails and had a gold colored shell. Will these guys take over my tank or are they o.[acronym:3069e99733="Kelvin or Potassium, depending on context"]k[/acronym:3069e99733].?

I am a HUGE fan of Apple Snails. They won't take over your tank. I had about 13 of them at once and they never reproduced (to my disapointment). They are fun to have, but watch your water closely. My pH dropped drastically in such a short period of time (from 7.4 to <6.0). Upon the advice of memebers of AA, we attributed it to the snails. Don't put too many in 1 tank unless you are ready to do plenty of water changes. 3 of them would do nicely in a 10 [acronym:8fb8729cf6="Gallon"]gal[/acronym:8fb8729cf6] tank.

well.. if u have plants make sure u dont get the bad kind.. i think the good kinds bridgessi or something

Apple snails will eat live plants. I didn't even think about mentioning that krap101.

I don't have too much problems with [acronym:c8262f15ae="power head or Measure of the concentration of hydrogen ions, depending on context"]ph[/acronym:c8262f15ae] , just problems with nitrates from the tap. I try to regulate that with a mix of [acronym:c8262f15ae="Reverse osmosis"]RO[/acronym:c8262f15ae] water and tap water.

no the bridgessi wont eat them.. i think its the canal apple or whatever that eats your plants. i think the bridgessi has a more pointier spiral..

but im not sure... ive only had the plant eating kind.
