CO2 reactors

Ok i have options for [acronym:2f57c6b81c="Carbon dioxide"]CO2[/acronym:2f57c6b81c] reactors

1. Plant Guild Power Reactor = $50
2. Non powered PLanted guild reactor = $30 + Rio 50 powerhead $8
3. [acronym:2f57c6b81c="Do it yourself"]DIY[/acronym:2f57c6b81c] Reactor with the python gravel tube and Rio 50 power head = $20
4. Aqua Medic Reactor (circular) = $25

The thing to consider here is that, i'm planning to make a pressurized [acronym:2f57c6b81c="Carbon dioxide"]CO2[/acronym:2f57c6b81c] system, i'm guessing number 2 would be the best right?

I really want to order from aquatic-store.com already but its just that the shipping and tax is just killing it. $12.99 s/h, tax $10. i'm trying to look for a site that doesn't have tax at least. Which i found, but it only has the Aqua medic reactor...

I don't think you could go wrong with option #3. I have the Plant Guild one and it is nothing more than a tube with a fitting for the Rio and a hole for your airline tube, plus a sponge that needs to be replaced periodically anyway (I cut [acronym:ce11b58802="Activated Carbon"]AC[/acronym:ce11b58802] sponges to fit). You can build that with the gravel vac tube and the Rio.

Check out Rex's site here http://rexgrigg.com/aa.htm#co2 and it might help you decide which way you want to go (forgive me if you have done so already )

Agree entirely with TankGirl. Option #3 will do a nice job for you and it's the least pricey option.

can i not put an airstone with this [acronym:087eca706e="Do it yourself"]DIY[/acronym:087eca706e] [acronym:087eca706e="Carbon dioxide"]CO2[/acronym:087eca706e] reactor? And does it matter what sponge i put under the gravel? I read that some foam pads might cause bacterial growth and some air stone might break down.

I might be confused, but do you mean put an air stone inside the reactor tube? Yes to that, but try to get the ones made of tiny glass beads. That is probably a good idea.

Sponge under the gravel? Do you mean the sponge that goes in the bottom of the tube? You will need something pretty porous. I use [acronym:6582507fbd="Activated Carbon"]AC[/acronym:6582507fbd] sponges but you have to keep those clean, by squeezing them and rinsing them out about twice a week. Another thing I have used is those nylon scrubbers you get for cleaning pots, that are basically a nylon tube netting rolled up into kind of a ring - do you know what I am describing? Those are porous and don't clog so easily. Of course they have to be new and well rinsed, and the only drawback to them is their garish colors, [acronym:6582507fbd="Laughing out loud"]LOL[/acronym:6582507fbd].

A prefilter on your air pump will keep the sponge from clogging also.

I hope I understand your question -
