So for the past week or so, I've been trying to teach myself everything possible about going from a 20g tank to a 55g tank. I think I've looked up nearly every tank and stand forum possible! I am sure I am being paranoid and stressing myself out over nothing, but I want to be sure first.

Tomorrow I am purchasing this tank, used from Craigslist. The owner had to upgrade to a larger tank, and the tank is basically like-new: http://images.craigslist.org/3Ma3Ib3H15E65H95M2cc17dffb58438011e11.jpg

I have a few concerns:

1) I do not like that it has 4 legs instead of being one, solid stand. I live in a second story condo and I have no idea where the floor joists are. I'm terrified of something going wrong as it is, and the fact that it isn't one solid stand with no legs bothers me. I read that putting plywood under it does little to help - is there anything else I could do?

2) I do not like that there is no center support for the bottom of the tank. I keep reading that the plastic trim around the tank provides additional support, but what about the center? How does the weight of the water not cause the tank to bow in the middle? Should I do anything to further support the tank on the stand?

3) Regarding the floor joists, since I have no idea where they are, I am going to put the tank on an outside wall. I don't think it's a load bearing wall because it's the longest un-sectioned-off wall in the condo, but it's the only wall that is an outside wall that isn't currently occupied by furniture. Does this sound like a good idea? I cannot rearrange the furniture because of the strange floor plan of the condo - TV must be in one spot due to design, couch won't fit on any other wall, etc.

Any help here would be great! Thanks, guys :)

Just a thought... If this setup makes you uncomfortable, why not keep looking on Craigslist for a setup you like? There will be others available. Personally, I'm not crazy about that stand either. It's probably fine though. If you know someone who can weld they could add pieces across the bottom to distribute the weight across your floor joists. Btw, someone announced in another thread that Petco's dollar/gallon sale is going on now, in case you want a brand new tank. Good luck!
