Can someone tell me what fish this is?

Hi I got given this fish today ( see pic in attachments) I got given a creating pair a male and female the male is about 10cm long and female is about 7 cm long I'm just trying to find out how to care for them the person I got them off didn't know what they were and only had a very small tank so I have put them in my 30 gal by them selfs.

Any help will be great thank you

Look like convict cichlids to me.

Convicts are very easy to care for.

First off, if you plan to keep them, go for a larger tank. They tend to get rough with each other (even when not spawning) When they are spawning or caring for the eggs and wigglers, the aggression level rises. Other fish are at risk for being beaten up.

Give them hiding places. I find that knocking the bottom out of unused terra cotta flower pots makes excellent caves for them.

Keep their water clean.

Not picky eaters. When I bred them I always fed a good staple food with treats every couple of days. Frozen beefheart, frozen blood worms, frozen krill or plankton.

Ok thank you, yea there nice looking fish now I'm going to have to research them too see how to look after/breed them

I have had these, they are like rabbits, breed easy nd alot! The way you tell them apart is the female has read aross her side, tummy area, so u deffinently have a pair good luck

Thanks for all the help guys, can I put the two convicts in with my Oscar in the 4 foot tank? Or with the oscar try to eat them and then stress them out?

Many times oscars and convicts work well together. Just have a back up plan if your oscar decides he does not need roommates.

Ok maybe if I change the tank around so the Oscar thinks it's a new tank
