Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish / Melonataenia Praecox

Just came back from a trip to my [acronym:27cbd3cdb7="Local Fish Store"]lfs[/acronym:27cbd3cdb7] in which I aquired four Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish aka Melonataenia Praecox! They are juveniles: 2 males and 2 females. The males have red finnage whilst the females have yellow finnage. They were AU$8 each and I had to buy them myself this time.

Here are some web pictures seeing as the fish are hyperactive and wouldnt sit still for a digi photo.

Here is what they look like now

Here is what they will grow up to be

Oh and whilst I was there I ordered myself 2 sparkling gourami (as referred to in the forgotten fish post) due for pickup next week *blinks with glee*

My first rainbowfish experience, if you can advise me of any care tips (feeding, social etc) that would be very excellent. . They seem to like to chase the tetras...

they are fairly timid around other fish, so if they are in with fish that like to "check out" their competition for food, thy may be shy for quite a while.

Other then that, they are fairly easy to care for. Nice looking fish!

beautiful! Rainbowfish are my favorite kind of freshwater fish. You're inspiring me to to start up a freshwater rainbowfish species tank. Thanks for sharing!
