So I got a new fish from walmart that had the beginnings of fin rot. It's was only on the tips of his tails. He is a beautiful Molly!!! I really want him to live. So I put him in a hospital tank and treated him with antibiotics. We are only on day 2..... I thought the fin rot would just go away but instead, that part of his tail is falling off. I'm assuming new tail will grow back in its place. Is that what usually happens. This is all very interesting me.

If you catch it soon enough, there's a good possibility it will grow back. If it's gotten into the body of the fish, there's no guarantee. It's cause can be of bacterial or fungal but usually runs alongside other diseases. The very beginning of rot is an environmental issues that usually starts with fighting, fin nipping, or overstocked or unkept tanks. In other words it's commonly contributed to stress as the major player.
