actually I took the 50/50 back and I am just going to use a Coralife lite system for corals etc.. might as well get it out of the way

are you sure 40 lbs is enough? because at home depot they have aragnite for 7$ for 50 lbs. just you gotta clean it more but you can get alot more

Hey,
I'm about three years late to this thread but someone mentioned using a kimchee jar. I'd like to use them to hatch some triops before I move them over to my bigger aquarium. Do you have any idea how to get the horrible garlic smell out of the jar or if leaving the smell in there will harm them?

As long as it's washed well, I don't see a reason why you can't. But you can hatch them in almost anything. I used one of those 1 gallon plastic critter carrier things that cost $4 at walmart. Flat, large, clear, and with a lid, and doesn't smell like garlic. :)

$4 is pretty cheap. I finally got the smell out by running hot water into the jars for about 10 minutes straight. They have absolutely no smell now. My idea was to turn the jars on their side as the triops would benefit with more floor space. I just have to find a way to cut a big hole in the side. But maybe that is too complicated since I only want to hatch babies in them. I heard you shouldn't hatch different species together as some grow a lot faster and will eat the other species. Do you know if they will get along once they are too big to eat each other?

You may want to post a new thread in the approprite forum. That way your post receives the attention that it needs.
