Shortly after bringing my fantail goldfish home from walmart, I noticed he would quickly catch food I feed him, but then when he goes for his 2nd bite, all the food from his 1st bite comes flying out of his mouth, he then frantically chases all the food down again. Is this normal??

Hi, welcome to the forum! I'd say that is normal and they are just being greedy :) You could add a pic though if unsure (always love pics!). My betta will chase down 3 pellets if I accidently overfeed despite this being way too much for him.

goldfish along with other fish don't chew as they don't have teeth , they use their gills to churn up food yes they will spit it out then suck it back in until the food particles are small enough to swallow , be careful it is easy to over feed fish especially gold fish they can eat themselves to death , never feed more than they can eat in a 2 minute time frame,
