Just got some java fern

And was wondering how to plant it

Tie it to some decor using cotton, fishing line, glue or an elastic band. Or you an put it on the substrate, if you want to "plant it" your best off using small stones to weigh it down as you don't want to bury the rhizome, the green hard stem the leaves produce from. The roots will attach to your substrate in a few weeks. If you bury the rhizome the chances are the plant will die back. Most people choose to tie it to decor as it takes quite well and grows in an attractive way over wood or caves.
