New Carpenters Wrasse!

Just got this little fella today. Saw him flash a couple of times and was amazed! He loves swimming near the top.

Nice! I have a McCosker's wrasse which are pretty similar. Beautiful fish!

What happened to yours? Mine started eating since day 1 which I'm really happy about. Wish I could see more flashing though. Anyone know what causes him to flash?

Went carpet surfing briefly, got stepped on by my daughter. Recovered then got stressed out during a power outage and didn't make the trip to the lfs.

I believe it's females or their reflection in the glass that makes the flash.

Also, does anyone know what gender it might be or how to determine it's gender?

Generally if they flash, they are male. Males have a long dorsal spine that comes off the dorsal fin. Also, wrasses change sex like clown fish, so if it is the only one in your tank, even if it isn't now, it will eventually be male.
