Well I decided to try my hand at 2 female bettas, but when I went to the store to pick them out, I found the most beautiful female betta, then 3 others that looked like they were about to die! It was sorta sad, algae growing in their cups, they were just sitting there, all drab and brown, so I bought 4 of them, not entirely having that much space but I figured I'd make do. Sooo, I have a 2.5 gallon that I've been wanting to stock for a long time, so I put 2 of the females in there and 2 in my planted 10 gallon. So far so good, they seem to be getting along just fine and my arrangement is working out great. They've colored up to be some amazingly beautiful little fish. Anyways, without further ado, here they are. :) Not the greatest pics, but you get the idea, and they are really hard to get to stay still!

The Lady in Red - very onery and active

Big Blue - she's got some really amazing color, but a little spot on her mouth that worries me, I've started
treating with some fungus meds.

No name yet - still hoping she will color up a little more, I took my chance that she wouldn't stay drab brown, and she is starting to show little sparks of color here and there.

R&B - Cause she is red and blue and really cool looking. A almost navy body with bright red fins.

Thanks for looking!

Lindsay, they will get prettier and prettier, until you just about can't stand it anymore. As the bars disappear and they relax and enjoy their new homes they will be stunning.

I have mixed feelings about buyin' the girls from "the cups", but I do it anyway. They so appreciate the new lease on life, and just light up when kept right.

Enjoy them!

Congrats and good job to you for rescuing them. I think they are all doing beautifully. You have already given them a better home than they had before. It drives me nuts to think how dirty the water in their cups was allowed to get to have algae growing in it!

Thanks!

Lisa, the stripes will go away? That'd be cool! This is my first time owning female bettas so I am clueless!

Anne, thanks! Yeah, the lady at the store (I happen to know her) said that nobody will buy them because they saty they are worthless and ugly, I said "yeah, cause they are in these small cups!". She told me that she changes the water every other day, which I just sorta shrugged off because I knew it was a lie! I felt bad leaving the 2 others there to sit but... oh well... :(

LG, thanks! That is definitley a 2.5 gallon. It's one of the MiniBow aquariums. Thanks for the comments!

I'd love to hear anybody else's stories of female bettas, comments/concerns, etc.

Thanks! :)

They are beautiful lindsay.

I kept females for a long time, they are great and get so beautiful. I prefer them to male bettas.

Could you get another pic of R&B, i really think she is an interesting looking betta. Infact, she doesn't look that much like a female, looks more like a plakat male... but who knows, need to see a side pic to figure that one out.
