Hi All,
I am new here, and fairly new to the hobby as well. I have one existing tank that I have had for almost a year (pictured), and I'd like to get a new tank started.
I was given an O'Dell tank that I think is fairly old, and not in the greatest condition. There are water and other mineral deposits on the side that I can't seem to get off. I tried using barkeeper's friend and vinegar to dissolve the substance, and then scrape it off with a razor, but the results haven't been great so far.
The sealing on the glass seems to need some work as well. I think at some point methylene blue was used in the tank that stained the seal, and after using the barkeeper's friend as well it looks even more... almost dry. It just doesn't seem like a healthy lining, but it doesn't leak or anything like that. Wiping these down doesn't seem to have worked well either.
Any help with getting this tank up and running? I really like the charm of having an older tank, and I'd like to get it as good looking as I can. If you know anything about O'Dell or how old this tank might be that would be great too; I can't seem to find much online about it.
Thanks!
PS I apologize if the images are upside down. I couldn't figure out how to rotate them
