I m looking to get some tiger oscars and wondering if they can survive hard water? I have setup a 55 gallon long and have added rock, my question is should i remove the rock to lower the hardeness of the water?

Any rock that's impacting the Hardness of your water that much is probably not a rock you want in the aquarium.
I would suggest testing your tap water's GH & KH and comparing it to the readings from the tank with the rock in it. If there is a significant increase, then you should remove the rock.

Yes they can, very hardy fish and resilient. Just not too hard. By the way in a 55, put only 1 oscar. 2 is just calling for a massacre, tank is too small they will be fighting once they hit maturity due to the territorialness nature of these fish, not to forget their huge bio load. Good luck
