Hi guys

I'm starting my 50 gallon fowlr saltwater tank and was wondering about the sump and the equipment that is supposed to be in a sump. If you recommend I use just filters, no sump, what would you recommend for that?

Thanks!

Sump is usually where you store your heaters for the tank, you're protein skimmer, you can build a refugium and for that you need some macro algae and a light and then your return pump to take the water back to the display tank. I would highly recommend a sump if possible as it increasing water volume and you can hide majority of your equipment in it.

Yep, a sump is the way to go. Had canisters before, didn't like them. Your biggest challenge will be the plumbing. What kind of return/overflow will you have?
