Activated Carbon for FOWLR, 3-5 days and remove?

I was curious about the best way to run AC in a FOWLR tank. Should it be run for only a few days every month or should I leave it in for several weeks at a time and then change it?

Thanks in advance,
Jim

How does everyone run AC in a reef-ready tank with sump and an in-sump skimmer, say an AquaC? Canister? HOB setup? Just trying to get the mechanics straight. Thanks.

For those of you who change out the carbon monthly, how often do you do a water change?

I usually do a water change every 2 weeks and change out my carbon monthly as well.

But... maybe a better method would be to change the carbon every other week alternating with water changes. ???

eg.

week 1 = water change
week 2 = carbon change
week 3 = w/c
week 4 = c/c
