I have a 125 and a 20 gallon saltwater tank.Is it absolutely necessary that I have air bubbles in my tanks? I have my powerheads pointed toward the surface agitating the water .

IMO, air bubblers are not a good thing in a SW setup. You will get increased salt creep and salt deposits from the popping bubbles. Aside from being unsightly, it will cause fluctuations in the SG, especially if they flake off and fall back into the tank.

Wow! Thanks Fresh 2o ..... I always wondered why I always had salt deposits around the rim of my tank.Never realized my 2 air stones were causing it! Took them out just now, thanks for the help

Most people don't use them for the salt creep reason mentioned, but a zillion years ago they were commonly used in saltwater tanks. I had a couple tanks and never had issues. The fish lived swimming through the bubbles.
