Air pump?

Have a 55g tank that I am I'm the process of cycling. I have a hang on the back filter that is breaking the surface. My question is If there is an easy way to know if you need an air pump or not.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You would never use an air pump on a salt tank. it would make a terrible salty mess of the surrounding walls , curtains, whatever is close by. If you need more oxygenation, purchase a power head. You are going to need some anyway.
