Algae Scrubber

Hi everyone,


For my next build I plan on a FOWLR, and have a question on Algae Scrubbers.

So, essentially, they kind of remove the need for PWCs if you don't have corals (which need more "stuff" in their water), correct?

I don't believe anything will ever completely remove the need for water changes, but an algae scrubber will certainly help keep nitrates and phosphates down.

Mine has been running over 20 years. They don't replace water exchanges, but are an excellent natural way to clean the water.

AA did a piece on this system in June. Aquarium of the month. There are some pictures, but the scrubber is hard to photograph as it is under magenta LEDs.

Still new and learrning here...by algae scrubbers...are you referring to those magnetic scrubber things that clean the glass or are you referring to some sort of critter?

No, it's a filtration system that uses algae. Youtube it.
