I have a 75 gallon tank and am going to go bare bottom with dry rock. I am wanting to know how this will work out. Do I still cycle the same, and will I have higher ammonia levels since no sand? I think of it as a quarantine tank at the moment no where for bacteria to grow and ammonia levels rising. Any advise on bare bottoms would be great.

What are you doing for filter?
My 120 fowlr is almost BB.
I added a super thin layer of CC and bits.
Glass is clearly visible under rocks do to eel moving it around.
Once cycled you should register no ammonia regardless of sub IMO.
I have LR and a sump.
Tank runs like all my others.

I plan on just going with a hob skimmer for filtration.

What fish do you plan?
Most "predators" are huge waste producers.
My 120 with dual overflow, sump and ps has only the moray and grouper.
Some may still consider this overstocked.
I had 2 lions but they went on hungar strike and died from stress from the moray.

I plan on having a Antennata Lion and something else not sure yet.
