Brought some nice rocks and sand from the beach.

I went to the beach today and brought home about 15 pounds of rock and about 5 pounds of sand, both fine and a little courser. Is it safe to put it in a tank that is cycling? Thanks

Nah,...bring them back ,... Too many pollutants close to the beach....most of the rocks and sand you get from the lfs are more than likely taken from deeper water where hopefully it's a much cleaner environment

After this

Water change, too much?

and you're still heading down the same general path. Again, just because you live in a sub-tropical location doesn't mean everything you find is best situated for a closed-system environment. Your best bet is to stop picking things up off the ground and go with the tried and true (and yes, not free) things that are meant for aquarium use.

IMO, of course
